Gorgeous Flowering Trees

It was a week after new year, and I noticed that most of the trees in our neighborhood were bare. The leaves have long turned brown and have fallen to the ground. The only trees with leaves are the evergreen trees that stay green all year long.

As I drove into our driveway, I saw these two beautiful trees standing in our front yard. They were the first colorful trees on our block. They have these little white flowers that cover the whole tree, and when the wind blows, the flowers fall off like snowflakes. Miriam did a post about this tree last year and found out that it is an ornamental pear tree. An ornamental tree is a tree that looks beautiful but doesn't give any fruits that you can eat. It is too bad that it isn't a real pear tree.

Now when you come to our home you better be careful. The tree is full with buzzing bees. I can hear them buzzing from my bedroom window. The bees are more interested in the flowers than people, and they have not stung anyone yet.

Do you have any interesting or beautiful trees growing in your neighborhood?
What is your favorite tree?

  1. Dear Sarah,

What a fantastic post about trees! Terrific topic!

I have a deciduous tree in my backyard called liquid amber. Deciduous is a fancy word that means a tree that loses all its leaves. The changes my liquid amber goes through are fabulous! Right now, it is completely bare! Even though it looks like a stick tree, it is still lovely. The outline of the tree against the blue sky makes me look at the tree differently. It's like the tree's skeleton!

I'm curious, did you take the photos or did your mom or sister take the photos? They are terrific and you should give photo credit! :-)

What is your favorite type of tree and why?

  2. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Thank you for leaving a lovely comment. I agree with you that I should give credit to the person who took the photo. My sister Miriam took one of the photos and I gave her credit. I took the other 2 photos on the post.

My favorite trees are fruit trees, because I really like to pick fruit and eat them. They are delicious. I hope you will continue to leave me some comments!

    Sincerely,
    Sarah

    2. @Mrs. Yollis,

Thank you for replying back to me! It is fun to have a conversation going. I promise to continue blogging for many years and hope that we can always keep in touch even when I am in higher grades.

We also have a pomegranate tree in our back yard but it is very small and doesn't give any pomegranates yet. I like to eat them, but only after my mom peals them. They are delicious!

      Sincerely,
      Sarah

  3. Dear Sarah,
I like your post and your pictures. It's really nice that you pay attention to the trees and to the nature and appreciate the beauty. When I visit you I also look at this tree.
I like how you compare falling white flowers to the snowflakes.
You are a very smart little girl and we all proud you.

  4. Dear Sarah,

Your blog looks great. Your tree pictures are beautiful- you have a good eye. I do not take very good pictures- I am famous for cutting off someone's arm or even the top of his or her head. In college, Royce's dad had a job taking pictures at formals (dances) so he is in charge of taking pictures for our family.

Since I grew up in New York, my favorite trees are maple trees. I have fun memories of raking a huge pile of leaves in my backyard. My brother and I would either jump in the pile or bury each other. My dad would get mad at us because it always meant more work for him. He would sometimes rake and stuff fifteen bags of leaves in a day. In Calabasas, we can usually find enough leaves to rake into a small pile for jumping. Maybe not as fun, but much less work to rake.

I look forward to your next comment.

    Sincerely,

    Tara (Royce's mom)

I really enjoyed you comment to me. Jumping into to leaves sounds fun! We have never tried it. My dad doesn't like the leaves falling off of our tree, because it makes a mess everywhere and flies inside of our garage and then he has to clean it all up.

I like taking photos, but sometimes I also cut off people's heads. I want to get a camera for my next birthday.

  5. Dear Sarah,
You*ve wrote a wonderful topic and did an amazing picture of a tree full of blossoms in January. It hard to believe that happens in winter. You showed us deciduose trees at the same time. I agree with Mrs. Yollis that we can see the tree*s skeleton.
You mentioned the buzzing bees and I can
hear them. It*s very nice of you to like the nature and to share your feelings with other
    people.
Love you, your grandma and grandpa
